Al ClevelandAlfred E. Cleveland, a senior managing partner of the firm, has years of experience in commercial disputes, corporate litigation, utilities law, mergers and acquisitions of publicly and privately held companies, which have included community banks acquired by the former United Carolina Bank, and the mergers of NCNG and Progress Energy, and Mid-South Insurance Company and Trigon Health Care. He has been counsel in new community bank organizations and bank corporate governance issues. He concentrates in commercial leases, estate planning, including preparation of wills and trusts and estate administration including large complex estates, and the law relating to non-profit organizations, which includes charitable trusts and foundations. During recent years, the value of his estate administration work has averaged $15,000,000 - $20,000,000 annually. Al is a former President of the Cumberland County Bar Association; former President of Twelfth Judicial District of the North Carolina State Bar; has been a Corporate Director of three publicly owned corporations, BB&T Corp., United Carolina Bankshares Corporation, and Mid-South Insurance Company; and was, for a short time, Corporate Secretary of North Carolina Natural Gas Corporation (now Piedmont Natural Gas Corporation). He has been very active in his community, having served as President of the Cumberland Community Foundation, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Fayetteville Academy, Trustee of Fayetteville State University, and immediate past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Methodist University. |
